The 2014 Audi A4 is offered only as a sedan, but the Audi Allroad is indeed the familiar version. There is also a higher performance version known as the S4 sedan. Trim levels are divided into three levels: Premium Premium Plus and Prestige. The standard bonus features include 17-inch wheels, the automatic headlights, front and rear fog lights, automatic wipers, sunroof, the cruise control, the automatic climate control, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, eight way power front seats with four-setting way driver lumbar, leather, dash-mounted multi Media interface, or MMI, Bluetooth phone connection, and a set of 10 speaker sound system with CD player, an auxiliary audio jack, an iPod interface and satellite radio. The Premium Plus comes standard with the cold and S line plus package adds keyless ignition/entry, auto-dimming outside mirrors, tri-zone automatic climate control and memory functions of the driver’s seat. The MMI navigation plus navigation system package has the Premium, but also adds sensors front and rear parking, rear view camera, Bluetooth audio connectivity and Audi connect (improved navigation, Web-based, information access and Wi-Fi). The system is also optional blind spot monitoring and 14 speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
The Prestige includes all the above and more adaptive headlights xenon standard. Exclusively for the Prestige is the driver Select the option package that adds adaptive cruise control, customizable settings and adjustable steering vehicle known as Audi Drive Select. Optional in both the Premium Plus and Prestige is the Sport package, which adds a sport suspension and sport front seats. Also available is the Audi Exclusive Line Interior package adds upgraded leather upholstery and special interior trim. Black optical package features 19-inch wheels and black gloss exterior trim.
The 2014 Audi A4 four-cylinder turbocharged may not be the most exciting or aurally pleasing engine in the world, but you can still fix your seat when the accelerator pedal gets to the floor. Ample torque allows quick bursts of acceleration around town and melt stress free on the roads. For the rare individual who wants more, the S4 sport should focus more than enough.
Around turns, the A4 shows a balanced and safe, but with a slight edge in fitness laying on equal footing with the BMW 3 Series sedan feel. Similarly, also maintains a high level of comfort. Opt for all-wheel drive further enhances its capabilities and driver confidence. 2014 Audi A4 is more performance-minded drivers may find an optional Sport package to your liking, though be prepared for a quality slightly harsher ride.
2014 Audi A4 Interior
The 2014 Audi A4 offers one of the best cabins in its class. Austere interior design gives an air of adult seriousness, while quality materials sent a message of sophisticated refinement. The use of real leather as the standard equipment also gives Audi an advantage over competitors from BMW and Mercedes, which use high quality vinyl. Although the A4 is considered a small car entry level luxury, the interior is more like a midsize sedan. Rear outboard seats provide ample legroom and head to comfortably accommodate a typical adult. The trunk of 12.4 cubic feet is only half size.
Infotainment functions are controlled with Audi MMI. This consists of a small knob surrounded together control buttons on a central screen menus. Overall, it is an effective interface, although some audio functions are buried in menus and in practice, we found BMW iDrive and a little more intuitive to use Mercedes COMAND systems. Also, A4s without navigation have MMI controller located on the board instead of the center console, which is not as comfortable to handle.
2014 Audi A4 Engine
Each 2014 Audi A4 is powered by the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produce 220 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The front wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) are standard, while the all-wheel drive is available with six-speed manual transmission or eight-speed automatic transmission. Audi believes that any of these variations Powertrain will bring the A4 from zero to 60 in 6.2 seconds to 6.6, which would be an average time for this class.
Fuel economy is EPA-estimated 24 mpg city/32 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined with the CVT and FWD. It drops slightly to 22/32/26 with AWD and manual transmission, and then further 20/29/24 with AWD and automatic.
2014 Audi A4 Security
The 2014 Audi A4 comes standard with anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, the front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. An alert system is an optional Blind Spot in Premium Plus and Prestige series. Air bags in the rear seats are optional on all models, while the Prestige can be equipped with a system of adaptive cruise control that warns the driver and prepares the brakes if it detects an imminent collision. Front and rear parking sensors and rearview camera are optional too. In brake testing, an A4 with summer tires stopped from 60 mph in 108 feet. This is great, though typical of a premium brand car with summer tires.
In government crash tests, the A4 received a perfect five stars in all categories, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the A4 last year the best possible score of “Good” in frontal offset moderate overlap, side and roof strength tests. The worst rating of “poor” was received in the new front small overlap between the IIHS offset crash test but the few cars have been subjected to this test, and most also received low ratings.
